Staff Web Engineer - Zendesk Web Platform
About the Role
Zendesk is dedicated to delivering outstanding digital experiences across our global web properties. We are looking for a motivated Staff Web Engineer to join our Marketing team and help make the Zendesk website more consistent, intuitive, and performant. You will contribute across the full software development lifecycle, collaborating closely with Marketing, Product, Design, and Engineering teams on scalable, accessible, and brand-aligned web solutions.
What You’ll Do
Develop and maintain front-end components and integrations using React, Next.js, JavaScript, TypeScript, CSS, and other core web technologies.
Support the migration of website content from WordPress to Adobe Experience Manager (AEM), ensuring brand consistency and content accuracy.
Collaborate with product management and engineering teams to design elegantly simple technical solutions for complex business problems, owning delivery from concept through QA, staging, and production deployment.
Follow engineering best practices across code quality, testing, and continuous integration/delivery, championing complete test coverage while shipping code frequently and reliably.
Participate actively in code reviews, design discussions, and pair programming to maintain high development standards.
Troubleshoot front-end and CMS-related issues, balancing speedy resolution with quality and stability.
Maintain and optimize web performance focusing on Core Web Vitals, accessibility (WCAG/ADA), and SEO best practices.
Integrate and maintain privacy and compliance platforms such as OneTrust and TrustArc within the web environment.
Support integration and maintenance of marketing technology platforms including Google Analytics, Marketo, Adobe Target, Adobe CDP, and other MarTech tools common for B2B SaaS.
Partner with cross-functional teams across all areas of the SDLC, including requirements gathering, service integration, and tooling standardization.
Work collaboratively across teams and organizational boundaries to standardize and introduce new libraries, tools, frameworks, and workflows that improve efficiency and quality.
Stay current with emerging web technologies and trends to continually improve the Zendesk web experience and development processes.
What We’re Looking For
4+ years of relevant industry experience with frontend software development, with a strong focus on React or similar single-page application frameworks (MVC/MVP).
Solid experience with frontend languages including JavaScript and/or TypeScript, HTML5, CSS3, and CSS-in-JS.
Hands-on experience with content management system migrations, preferably involving WordPress and Adobe Experience Manager (AEM).
Working knowledge of performance optimization best practices, Core Web Vitals, accessibility standards (WCAG/ADA), and SEO fundamentals.
Expertise in frontend state management, session handling, REST APIs, JSON, and object-relational mapping concepts.
Familiarity with relational databases and SQL (preferably MySQL) and experience working with backend data sources.
Experience with monitoring and logging tools such as Datadog or similar log aggregation platforms.
Demonstrated ability to design, debug, and deliver high-quality, stable, and maintainable code in an agile environment.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, comfortable liaising with both technical and non-technical colleagues.
A collaborative, team-first attitude that thrives in a fast-paced, iterative development environment.
Preferred Qualifications / Bonus Skills
Experience with one or more object-oriented backend languages such as Ruby, Java, or Node.js.
Familiarity with AWS services like Aurora RDS or DynamoDB.
Hands-on experience with instrumentation and analytics tools such as Segment or Pendo.
Exposure to CI/CD pipelines and delivery systems like GitHub Actions, Travis CI, or Jenkins.
Knowledge of JavaScript build tooling and infrastructure such as Webpack, Babel, and Node.js.
Interest or experience with micro-frontend architectures, infrastructure-as-code, or cloud-native development patterns.

The US annualized base salary range for this position is $119,000.00-$179,000.00. This position may also be eligible for bonus, benefits, or related incentives. While this range reflects the minimum and maximum value for new hire salaries for the position across all US locations, the offer for the successful candidate for this position will be based on job related capabilities, applicable experience, and other factors such as work location. Please note that the compensation details listed in US role postings reflect the base salary only (or OTE for commissions based roles), and do not include bonus, benefits, or related incentives.Hybrid: In this role, our hybrid experience is designed at the team level to give you a rich onsite experience packed with connection, collaboration, learning, and celebration - while also giving you flexibility to work remotely for part of the week. This role must attend our local office for part of the week. The specific in-office schedule is to be determined by the hiring manager.
