Job Description

We are looking for an experienced software engineer to join our product team at Zendesk focused on implementing data privacy and protection capabilities for our customers, such as Advanced Encryption, Data Redaction, Data Retention, and more. This cross-functional product team is responsible for engineering solutions to meet new and evolving data privacy laws.

We are looking for a fullstack Senior Software Engineer. This role is perfect for engineers who are passionate about scalable architectures and who want to work on high-impact engineering initiatives at an enterprise scale.

As a Senior Engineer, you will work across teams to solve complex challenges, mentor engineers, and lead the design and development of solutions that enhance Zendesk’s data customization capabilities. What you’ll do

Lead Engineering Excellence & Innovation

  • Lead initiatives end-to-end from the system design through to implementation and delivery.

  • Work across multiple teams and disciplines to architect reliable, secure, performant, extensible, and scalable solutions for enterprise customers.

  • Make high-impact technical decisions and effectively communicate rationale to engineering teams and stakeholders.

  • Ensure code quality, maintainability, scalability, and reliability, adhering to best practices and industry standards.

Collaborate & Deliver High-Impact Solutions

  • Work closely with Product Managers, Designers, and Engineering Leaders to define and execute on technical strategy.

  • Proactively identify and mitigate potential issues in development, testing, or delivery stages.

  • Participate in application improvement discussions, project initiatives, and solution design.

  • Build reusable components and code that improve development efficiency and consistency.

  • Participate in code reviews, providing constructive feedback to maintain high engineering standards.

  • Own end-to-end delivery, ensuring features are delivered with high quality, reliability, and performance.

Mentor, Guide, and Strengthen the Team

  • Mentor, pair with, and train team members to foster continuous learning and growth.

  • Promote a learning culture within the team, ensuring equal opportunities for skill development.

  • Participate in on-call rotations after an initial training period, ensuring system reliability and uptime.

  • Show strategic forward-thinking and contribute to team technical leadership to drive long-term success.

What you bring to the role

Required qualifications

  • 4+ years of proven experience in a backend or full-stack application engineering role

  • 2+ years of experience working with Ruby on Rails and/or Java.

  • Autonomy to lead a project through its execution, while also knowing when to ask for help.

  • Able to mentor and lead engineers, contributing to an enjoyable work environment that promotes teamwork.

  • Experience using observability tools to ensure system reliability at scale

  • Open minded and inclusive mentality, both for your colleagues and your work.

  • English proficiency both spoken and written.

  • You’re tenacious, driven, and have a passion for learning, love to collaborate and have meaningful interactions with everyone you meet.

  • We're looking for engineers who are not afraid of touching every layer of our technical stack.

  • Have a proven record in Software Engineering with demonstrated capabilities in any of the major programming languages (Java, Ruby, Go, Scala, etc).

  • Knowledgeable in building for scale and using distributed systems.

  • Proven understanding of data structures and algorithms.

Preferred qualifications

  • Prior experience in security or data privacy and protection space.

  • Familiarity with gRPC, Service Mesh, Kubernetes, Envoy, Istio.

  • Familiarity with micro frontend architectures and federation.

  • Personal projects, collaboration with an open-source community or active learning initiatives would be a good sign of your passion for learning and tackling problems.

  • Backend: Ruby on Rails and Java.

  • Frontend: JavaScript, TypeScript, React, GraphQL.

  • Datastore: MySQL/Aurora, DynamoDB, S3, ElasticSearch.

  • Cloud & Infrastructure: AWS, Kubernetes, Envoy, Istio.

The Poland annualized base salary range for this position is zł235,000.00-zł353,000.00. Please note that while the salary range represents the minimum and maximum base salary rate for this position, the actual compensation offered will be based on job related capabilities, applicable experience, and other relevant factors. This position may also be eligible for bonus, benefits, or related incentives that will be communicated during the offer stage.

Hybrid: In this role, our hybrid experience is designed at the team level to give you a rich onsite experience packed with connection, collaboration, learning, and celebration - while also giving you flexibility to work remotely for part of the week. This role must attend our local office for part of the week. The specific in-office schedule is to be determined by the hiring manager.
