Please note this is a hybrid role with the Melbourne office.

Job Summary:

In this role, you will be responsible for automating workflows including failure mitigation, and alert response. Monitoring site performance and utilization metrics and looking for ways to improve system visibility and reliability. Using Chaos Engineering to test expected failure states and identify opportunities for further resiliency. Keeping all client-facing products and services running and restoring service quickly when failure occurs. Communicating with internal and external stakeholders when failure occurs. Working closely with internal partners and teams to ensure that we build software that meets observability, monitorability, and performance requirements. Writing, updating, and following documentation, including runbooks/playbooks to resolve or prevent issues.

How You Will Make an Impact:

  • Automating workflows including failure mitigation, and alert response
  • Build solutions to some problems for operations and support teams
  • Using Chaos Engineering to test service failure conditions and identify opportunities for further resiliency
  • Work with development teams across the organization to identify opportunities for added observability and monitorability
  • Responding promptly to service-impacting events as required and resolving impact
  • Maintaining and improving documentation and processes
  • Fixing or correctly directing escalated issues from support
  • May include deploying new versions of D2L software (upgrades and hotfixes) at an enterprise
    scale.
  • Work flexible hours on occasion for team coverage

What You’ll Bring to the Role:

  • Understanding of the interconnectivity of basic infrastructure components (database, web servers, etc.)
  • 2+ years of experience with scripting and/or programming skills (PowerShell, SQL, Node.js, Javascript, JQuery, HTML, or others)
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
    • Ability to discuss solutions to incidents and coordinate working towards resolution of an issue
    • Communicates simple concepts in writing and able to manage a meeting with some guidance
  • Ability to prioritize tasks based on provided criteria and craft solutions to problems and tasks
  • Relationship building skills
  • Willingness and eager to learn
  • Capable of following processes and documentation while being adaptable to changes in processes and procedures
  • Post-secondary degree or +2 years of experience if no degree is desired
